What this does
Beyond standard leave, WorkRight handles three related flows. Comp-off (compensatory off) is credit an employee earns for working on a holiday or weekly-off, which they later spend as time off. Work-from-home (WFH) lets an employee plan WFH days that use no leave balance and reflect on their attendance automatically. Public holidays are a per-company calendar that excludes those days from leave and timesheet counts, so the numbers always line up.
Who can do it
- Employees view their comp-off balance, plan WFH, and see the holiday calendar.
- Managers / HR grant comp-off credit and approve WFH requests.
- HR admins (
company_adminorhr_manager) maintain the public-holiday calendar — adding, editing and restoring default holidays per year. - Plan:these surfaces are part of the leave/HR modules. If one isn't on your plan, its menu is hidden — see pricing.
Comp-off — earn and spend
Comp-off is credit for working when you normally wouldn't — a holiday or a weekly-off. On the Comp-off page you see your availablebalance and each credit's history.
- Earning: a manager or HR grants the credit for a worked date as a full day (1.0) or half day (0.5), with an optional note.
- Expiry:each credit carries an expiry date, shown against the credit ("expires" with the days remaining of the original credit). Use it before it lapses.
- Spending: you consume comp-off by filing a normal Comp-Off leave request — pick the Comp-Off leave type and dates like any other leave request. Unused comp-off can also be settled in a full-and-final on exit.
Work-from-home — balance-free
WFH is for planning the days you'll work remotely. It uses no leave balance, and an approved range overlays your attendance — a WFH day reads as WFH, not absent.
- Open Work from home and create a request with a start and end date and an optional reason. Weekends and holidays are excluded from the day count.
- Submit it for your manager's approval (WFH always needs sign-off). You can cancela request while it's pending or approved.
- Managers and HR approve from the WFH approvals queue. Approving moves no balance — it just overlays the covered days on attendance.
Public holidays — one calendar everyone shares
The Public holidayspage is your company's holiday calendar. Holidays are excluded from leave day-counts and from timesheet non-working-day calculations, so a holiday never quietly eats into someone's leave.
- Everyone can view the calendar — filter by year, with date, name and description per holiday.
- HR admins can add, edit and remove holidays. Removing is a soft delete, so historical counts stay stable; use Show inactive to surface removed entries.
- Restore defaults— under Settings → Holidays, HR can seed a year's national holidays in one click, then edit day-by-day as needed.
Tips
- Track comp-off expiry — credits lapse, so encourage people to spend them before the expiry date shown on each credit.
- Use WFH (not leave) for remote days, so attendance reads WFH and no balance is touched.
- Set up the holiday calendar at the start of the year — restore the defaults, then adjust for regional and company-specific holidays.
